Join the Canadian International Council Calgary Branch for a talk with Dr. Jay Batongbacal, Professor at the University of the Philippines College of Law and Director of the UP Law Center's Institute for Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea. Dr. Batongbacal has served as legal advisor to the Philippine delegation's successful continental shelf claim in the Benham Rise region under UNCLOS, and holds graduate degrees in marine management and law from Dalhousie University. Dr. Batongbacal will speak on the law of the sea, the ongoing disputes in the West Philippine Sea, and the strategic significance of the region's maritime chokepoints.
