Vietnam 50 years: Lessons Learned and Lessons Ignored

What lessons have we learned—and must we learn—from the Vietnam War? How does the war continue to reverberate in our politics today? A bipartisan group of former Members of Congress join experts on the Vietnam War to examine the tumultuous Vietnam era. Many of the issues that shaped our nation in the 1960s and 1970s still play a leading role in our national dialogue: race relations, culture wars, how we treat veterans, and the erosion of trust in government. Panelists Include: The Honorable Bob Carr (D-MI, 1975-1981; 1983-1995) , Secretary Chuck Hagel (R-NE, 1997-2009; Former U.S. Secretary of Defense), Ambassador James Jones (D-OK, 1973-1987; Chief of Staff, President Lyndon B. Johnson), and Harry Robinson III (Howard University Professor of Architecture and Dean Emeritus and Member Board of Directors of Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund). Moderating the panel will be CBS Radio News Political Analyst and American University Professor Leonard Steinhorn. Presented in partnership with the National Archives.
